About John

John is an award-winning broadcast journalist with three decades of on-air experience at CBS, CNN, ABC and other networks. John is an attorney, admitted to the Bar in New York as well as the Southern and Eastern Districts. He served as chief corporate communications officer at E*TRADE, where he helped the company navigate 9-11, an SEC settlement and executive scandals.

For the past 15 years, John’s news broadcasts on WCBS Newsradio 880 have reached a million listeners every weekend. He has covered such diverse stories as the Madoff and Milken sentencings, the Martha Stewart trial, the Times Square bombing attempt and the ”Miracle on the Hudson.” He is a winner of a New York Press Club Award for his WCBS-TV report on the exoneration of a wrongly-accused African-American man from Queens. He won a New York State Broadcasters Award for Outstanding Hard News Story for his WCBS-TV report about bias attacks against Hispanics on Staten Island. John’s Bloomberg Business reports can be heard on WCBS and other stations around the country.

At CNN, John anchored Your Money, the network’s weekly program on personal finance. He was CNN’s Nasdaq correspondent, reporting hourly during the market crash in 2000. His reports appeared internationally on the program Moneyline with Lou Dobbs. John has interviewed such world figures as Bill Gates, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Barack Obama. He traveled to 46 states covering a presidential campaign for ABC News and briefed Peter Jennings. John spent six months investigating Donald Trump’s casino finances for investigative reports on ABC’s World News Tonight. He produced a Barbara Walters interview for an ABC documentary on education. John was also a staff reporter and editor at The National Law Journal.

For the past decade John has trained executives, lawyers and union leaders in making effective media appearances and crafting crisis communications. He has taught communications and journalism at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

John is a member of SAG-AFTRA, serves on the union’s national broadcast steering committee and has been involved in collective bargaining at the shop level. John won two union elections to the New York board of SAG-AFTRA.

John received his J.D. from Columbia Law, his M.S. from Columbia Journalism and his B.A. from Columbia College, cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
